At 29, I decided to give up my life and move into a campervan.
I was ready. Ready for the chaos, the freedom, living life on my own terms. And then life threw a curveball.
The diagnosis
I was diagnosed with an incurable long-term illness. Which meant hospital. Bed-bound. And at one point — blind.
My dream was put on hold. On pause. But it didn't mean I was going to give up.
Building anyway
As soon as I was able to, I built my van. And I've been living van life for three years since. Honestly? I wouldn't change anything.
Before this, living in bricks and mortar felt like Groundhog Day. The same four walls. The same routine. The same financial struggles. The only person benefiting was my landlord.
I had no idea of my own potential until I stepped away from all of that.
What van life actually gave me
It made me explore parts of myself I never would have found otherwise. It's brought nature into the lives of my family and friends. This lifestyle is contagious — in the best possible way.
And here's what I want you to hear:
You don't need loads of money. You can be on benefits. You don't need perfect health. I live with a chronic illness, mild mobility struggles, and anxiety — and I still make this work, every single day.
If you're waiting for a sign
Whether you're curious, planning a build, or you think this is totally out of your reach — I promise you it's not.
This lifestyle has taught me peace, presence, and what truly matters.
If you're waiting for a sign to start your journey — this is it.
